Opportunities abound and thank goodness for the internet - because if you know how to optimize its networking potential - destiny will always be literally an application away!
The trick is to identify an opportunity. How do you do this? Well, stick with us for a start or 'google' the opportunities you're looking for i.e training, fellowships, scholarships, conferences, workshops, exchange programs, volunteering opportunities etc.
And when you come across something you are interested in find out whether you're eligible or not. And if you are... make use of the philosophy we've alluded to above - Apply! Apply! Apply!
Here are some opportunities we spotted the other day (take note of the deadlines, that is the golden rule of chasing opportunities!)
The organizers of the AIDS 2012 Conference in Washington DC - July 22-27 are looking to provide 800 scholarships and the AIDS 2012 Youth Programme is looking to attract as many young people to attend as possible! Check out their website and see if you're eligible. If you are eligible... you know what to do!
Women Deliver and Partners in Population and Development will hold a targeted consultation in 2012 to gather regional perspectives on MDG 5 (if you don't know what the MDG is; it is clear indication you're ineligible to take part in this!) and the post-2015 development framework. Take part in this Youth Workshop on MDG 5 in Kampala, Uganda if you have an interest in Maternal Health issues and Reproductive and Sexual Health Rights. Oh, and this one has a very tight deadline!
If you're a journalist, you have a chance to strengthen your capacity as a broadcast, print or online journalist to use the internet (including social media) for the purposes of research, publication and distribution by taking part in the Internet for Journalists 6-week course in Netherlands for which scholarships are available to cover all expenses!
So get applying... you never know... you might just be an application away from Kampala, Washington DC or the Netherlands! Destiny is always an application away!
Happy applying! And remember where there's YOUR will, we'll be here to help you find a way!
