You're always an APPLICATION away from destiny!

We have a simple philosophy at Edu-Connect. It's called the philosophy of 'apply'. It can be summarized in three words - Apply! Apply! Apply!

Opportunities abound and thank goodness for the internet - because if you know how to optimize its networking potential - destiny will always be literally an application away!
The trick is to identify an opportunity. How do you do this? Well, stick with us for a start or 'google' the opportunities you're looking for i.e training, fellowships, scholarships, conferences, workshops, exchange programs, volunteering opportunities etc.

And when you come across something you are interested in find out whether you're eligible or not. And if you are... make use of the philosophy we've alluded to above - Apply! Apply! Apply!

Here are some opportunities we spotted the other day (take note of the deadlines, that is the golden rule of chasing opportunities!)

The organizers of the AIDS 2012 Conference in Washington DC - July 22-27 are looking to provide 800 scholarships and the AIDS 2012 Youth Programme is looking to attract as many young people to attend as possible! Check out their website and see if you're eligible. If you are eligible... you know what to do!

Women Deliver and Partners in Population and Development will hold a targeted consultation in 2012 to gather regional perspectives on MDG 5 (if you don't know what the MDG is; it is clear indication you're ineligible to take part in this!) and the post-2015 development framework. Take part in this Youth Workshop on MDG 5 in Kampala, Uganda if you have an interest in Maternal Health issues and Reproductive and Sexual Health Rights. Oh, and this one has a very tight deadline!

If you're a journalist, you have a chance to strengthen your capacity as a broadcast, print or online journalist to use the internet (including social media) for the purposes of research, publication and distribution by taking part in the Internet for Journalists 6-week course in Netherlands for which scholarships are available to cover all expenses!

So get applying... you never know... you might just be an application away from Kampala, Washington DC or the Netherlands! Destiny is always an application away!

Happy applying! And remember where there's YOUR will, we'll be here to help you find a way!

Live and Work in US... for a year!

One of the things that excite us at Edu-Connect is seeing opportunities and chasing after them at Usain-Bolt-speed!

We hope you have a similar approach to opportunities because this project is about helping those who have the WILL and just need to find a WAY!

So when we came across the Atlas Corps Call for Applications we started thinking of our running shoes because this is one of those opportunities one should sprint after (break-neck speed usually works well in such instances!).

Seize the opportunity by the beard, for it is bald behind.  ~Bulgarian Proverb

Briefly: Atlas Corps is an overseas fellowship for the world's best nonprofit leaders. Its mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. It is a 12-18 month professional fellowship offered three times a year.

Just so you know it can be done; there are three Zimbabweans from Harare who got into the 2010 cluster (this is a big deal because it meant Zim had the highest representation in that year). In 2011, one Zimbabwean got accepted but in terms of representation the Nigerians came out in full force!

Well, here's a chance to APPLY! for the opportunity of living and working in the US for a year. Take a break from routine, acquire new skills, have an adventure and explore life on the other end of the hemisphere!

It's 2012 and where there's YOUR will; we're here to HELP you find a way!

"Put your future in good hands... your own"

You're just getting over the holiday season. Chances are you're going to welcome this post with as much enthusiasm as you would a shrieking alarm that goes off just as you were getting to the 'nice' part of your dream.

Unlike the alarm clock though, we're not out to ruin or interrupt your dream - we just want to help you live it and in order to do that, you've got to wake up.

We were thinking it would be a good idea to start familiarizing yourself with the websites of the Universities you're interested in.

If you're going to be applying for a place; it makes sense to have an idea of where exactly you're trying to go.

Browsing the University websites will help you become familiar with the institutions of your choice. Think of it as taking a cyber-tour of where you want to go.

Applying for a place for post graduate study is serious business; but it is also a great place to start the adventure we call 'the future'.

What are you waiting for? Grab a dollar, find an internet cafe and spare an hour.

And remember for the Canon Collins Scholarships they will EXCLUSIVELY consider students who get places at the Six UK Universities to keep an eye out for that we wrote about two weeks ago. Hope you were paying close attention!

Six UK Universities to keep an eye on...

"I always say don't make plans, make options" - Jennifer Aniston.

We like Jennifer Aniston's thinking but we'd recommend you make plans AND make options too! We hope this post can help you plan and weigh your options.

This is our list of 6 UK Universities you should consider applying to. Of course you can apply wherever you like but we have a reason why we picked these 6 specific institutions.

The reason is quite simple. These 6 Universities have partnered with the Canon Collins Trust that provides scholarships for Southern African students (including Zimbabweans).

This means getting a place at any of these 6 Universities enhances your chances of getting one of their partial or full scholarships.

Remember there are NO guarantees but there's no harm in exhausting every option.

So here are 6 options to consider:

Good luck applying and don't procrastinate! If you haven't applied anywhere in the next 10 weeks - you're severely harming your chances.

If you need a few pointers, refer to our Project Edu-Connect 2012 Information Pack - 1 or send an email to: project.educonnect@gmail.com

Happy holidays and hope you hit the ground running in 2012!
